Naree Jogajoge Kendra (NJK), Adolescent forum and USS, Nilphamari have organized human chain in Nilphamari town on 29 September2014 from 10 to 12 am with banner, festoon and placard to protest initiatives to amendment of child marriage prevention Act 2014 about reducing the age limit to get married from 18 to 16 for women and 21 to 18 for men where proposing. Leaders of respective organizations gave speech in the gathering. They are Advocate Layla Anjumanara, Convener of Naree Jogagoge Kendra (NJK), Daolot Jahan Chabi (Ex upazila Mohila Vice-chairman), Advocate Alpona Rani Roy, Mrs. Rashida Begum, Aklima Begum member of NJK, Md.Shafiqul Islam, Kalidas Roy and Jayonti Rani Roy from adolescent forum and Monajjina Khanam from USS. After closing the human chain they reached Deputy Commissar’s office with rally and gave him a copy of memorandum. 500 female and male were participated in this event.
Layla Anjumanara says, Early marriage and early pregnancy results in substantially increased health risk of mother and child. It adversely affects girl’s access to higher education. With different responsibility of a married life, it’s not favorable for a girl to continue her higher education. Thus it is a denial of the rights of the child, and becomes social and economic burden for the country. She hopes government will consider their opinion for the greater interest the country.
