International Women's Day is celebrated annually on March 8 and Bangladesh wants to achieve the sustainable development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations by 2030. According to SDG 5, the government is committed to achieve equality of women and man and also women empowerment. Right now is a great and important time to reflect on the progress for women. Child marriage rate is high in Bangladesh. Most of the women still suffer discrimination in social, cultural and political fields. Keeping this in priority, the government celebrates International Women's Day each year. The theme of this year is-
"Everyone thinks together, do something new,
Make a new world of men and women equal’’
Jaldhaka Upazila administration has taken various initiatives to celebrate the day. Government & Non government organization jointly observed the day. Upazila Child Protection Committee and Upazila Children and Youth Network has participated with facilitation of USS and supported by Plan International Bangladesh in these program. This day activity was Human chain, discussion, rally and women development fair.
Human chain & Rally
Upazila Administration of Jaldhaka Upazila Parishad organized a human chain & rally on 6 March’2019. USS Jaldhaka, Upazila child & youth network and Upazila Child Protection Committee participated from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Students and teachers of various educational institutions of the upazila also participate in this program.
Women development Fair (Upazila Parishad):
USS Jaldhaka has participated in the fair under R2PP project through showing women development activities supported by Plan International in allocated stall. Upazila Administration of Jaldhaka Upazila Parishad organized a women development fair from 8-9 March’2019. Miss Purob Rani Roy Upazila Women Affairs Officer was attended the opening program. GO and NGOs representatives attended. Upazila Child and Youth Network and Upazila Child Protection Committee, students and teachers of different educational institutions also participated in this program. USS has arranged awareness shows (TFD) after opening the fair to aware the community about child marriage, child rights & child protection and dowry.
