USS organized a shadow Child Parliament session – 2019 under R2PP project supported by Plan International Bangladesh at Nilphamari district on 24 April 2019. On behalf of Deputy Commissioner, Mahbub Hasan, NDC inaugurated the session as a chief guest.
Jhorna Sultana, RDC; Abdul Faruq, Deputy – Director of Youth Development; Nusrat Fatema, Deputy – Director of Social Welfare; Mostak Ahmed, District Child Affairs Officer; Suzauddowla, Upazila Nirbhahi Officer of Jaldhaka upazila and Dr Arefin Amal Islam, Project Manager, Born On Time Project were present as special guest while Executive Director Of USS Alauddin Ali chaired of the event.
The theme of parliament session was “People’s role is the main in protecting child”. A total of 15 children participated of the event and played role in different position. Lubna Akter Mun as Speaker, Motia Choudhuri Mim as Prime Minister, Irin Akter as Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Taslima Akter as Minister of Health and Family Planning Ministry, Fauzia Hasan Binti as Minister of Social Welfare Ministry, Maskatul Jannat Madha as Minister of Education Ministry and Halima Akter as Minister of Science & Technology played role in favor of government and Members from opposition party played opposite role. Sabina, member of children forum presented the whole session. Irin Akter, Anika Akter, Anita Rani Anu, Raian Ali Rizvi, Sania Jahan Sopnil and Sonali Akter Shathi played role as memberof parliament and member of Parliamentarian committee Government officials, members of local government, teachers, journalists, staff from USS, and members of civil society organization participated of the event.
Chief Guest provide thanks to USS and Plan International Bangladesh to organize such important event. He said the way the children spoke today is very nice and their presentation was good. I believe children learned a lot from this sessio.
ED of USS started the session with welcome speech. Parliamentarians present their issues with qualitative and quantitative data on that occasion in the shadow parliament.
Objectives of this parliament session:
· To develop the capacity of children so that they can raise their voice to different forum and government officials.
· To create a network with different government departments who closely work on child rights issues.
Member of Parliaments are emphasis to implement the following issues through their lecture:
- Include representative of child at all upazila,district and national level and conduct regular meeting
- Implement corporal punishment law at all education institute and regular monitoring.
- Quick response after calling help line number of 1098 and 109
- Punishment should ensure too who were involved that early marriage.
- Effective step should taken against siber crime.
- Need to ensure skill doctor of all union health and family planning centre of the country.
