AWD Meeting Held

 Alternative Wetting and Drying (AWD) meeting is held at Akashkuri Masterpara village under Laxmichap union of Nilphamari district on 01st February’2018 for awareness raising of boro rice cultivar on reducing loss of water and save money & more yield. 15 rice farmers and one water supplier are participated in the meeting arranged by Udayankur Seba Sangstha (USS), Nilphamari supported by RDRS Bangladesh and IRRI. Md. Jomil, Agriculture Coordinator of USS took part of elaborate discussion on objective & importance of the meeting, how to do set AWD pipe in rice field and how to supply water to rice field following AWD procedure. A land classification map is prepared considering land height to set AWD pipe and representative is select for each level of land to supply and control water. Water supplier has agreed to reduce rate of contracted amount taka per unit land from previous year. S.M Rokib Abedin and Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Sub Assistant Agriculture (SAAO) of DAE were present during the time of meeting and they also discussed regarding importance of the issue to save land, environment. Nonogopal and other staff of USS were present in the meeting. Participants were agreed to apply the method in their boro rice land.
