Training on Community Child Journalist Group Members

Udayankur Seba Sangstha (USS) is implementing Women Initiatives for Community Development (W4CD) Project under LRP-52 at Phulbari Upazilla of Kurigram district supported by Actionaid Bangladesh (AAB). According to the article 29 0f United Nations Human Rights charter, “Everyone has the rights to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom of expression, association and search for information by any means, regardless of state boundaries.” Besides, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is implementing across the countries with a motto “No one left behind”. So children all over the country are not outside of this. In accordance with the article 12-13 of the United Nations Child Rights Charter, children have the rights to express their feelings and opinion. Hence a Community Journalist Group (CJG) was formed earlier on 27^th October 2020. In relation to the article 15 of the United Nations Child Rights Charter, “Every child has the Rights to organize and assemble.

W4CD has organized a two days basic training for the Community Journalist Group (CJG) members from 3^rd to 4^th October 2021. The training was held at Zilla Parishad Dackbanglo, Phulbari, Kurigram. Mr Serajul Hossain- Ekattor TV, facilitate the training session

 Objectives of the training are bellow to:

• Fundamental principle of child journalism & develop content the news. 
• Build the common understanding on different news & child article.
• Increase the knowledge & skill of community journalist to write the correct news.

Description of the events (First day):

Facilitator Mr Serajul Hossain gave the welcome speech among the participants to make successful training & children have acquired knowledge on journalism.

Content of the training are bellows to First Session:

• Basic concept on news- journalism & importance of news and characteristic of ideal news
• How to develop the news & article & task of journalist.

 After facilitating the those session CJG members have learned the following issues

• NEWS= North, E= East= W= west, S= South
• Characteristic of ideal NEWS; ABBCCC which are; Accuracy - B= Balance, B= Brevity, C= Clarity. C= Credibility ,C= Condense
• Consist/ structure of writ of the news: pyramid & revert pyramid methods this process is well-known to our children.
• Journalist: who are collecting the information in respective issue & published it in media.
• Journalism: Who are responsible to know the news in specific issues through Medias?
• How to considering issue to write the news which is called 5 W 1 H, these are: What, When, Why, Who, Where, How.

 Description of the events (2nd day):

Content of the training are bellows to first Session: Review the whole session in previous day through one by one.

Child journalist it’s important and their challenge.

After facilitating the session CJG members have learned the following issues:-

• Child journalist is concept of journalism that child centered news development, view to concept of community related issues and their different stories of human being.
• Important of   child journalism : Community based news collector & publishers- Child journalism always try to the real news from community, Children can access to write something for community development. 
• Major challenge : Lack legal identity - Lack of knowledge to write the correct news- Someone/ parents didn’t support to write & published the news
•  Quality of reporter: Good information collector- information analysis - communication skill in different sectors.

Description of the events (2nd day):

• Content of the training are bellows to First Session: Review the whole session in previous day through game.
•  Photo journalist: Who are playing the role to capture the photo which is covered the perfect news.
• Concept of Photo journalism : Portrait photography - Photo journalism- fashion photograph-   sports photography- Still life photography- editorial photography- Architectural photography-
• Principle of photography are bellows to :-

• Don’t capture any photo without concern
• Don’t capture in additional photo which is not important.
• Select the objectives than capture the photo.
• Always the captures the photo in consider his her dignity.

 Type of news:-

• Consider to sources:  Regional news - Local/ metropolitan - Country wide news- Foreign news.
• Consider to importunacy:  absolute news -Hard news- Soft news.
• Consider to structural side: surfaces news- in-depth news - Explanatory news

 Type of camera shot: Crap shot - Crown shot - Over the shoulder- two shot- back focus. 

 Some expressions of children which are below:

• I am very happy to participate the basic training on community journalist groups as member, I have learnt more from this training------- Prapti rani- Borovita union.
• It is my first training in my life but it is more effective to develop the news & publish it-------------  Sweety  khatun  - shimulbari union.
• In December 2021, we have a plan to published the news bulletin on LRP-52 & sponsor child activities ,I can write something for bulletin---------Akhi Khatun- Shumul bari union.

  This training contributes to overall objective of the w4cd-project and USS strategic objectives also. A USS is trying to ensure the qualitative output from this events .Community journalist Group member is very happy to participate the training and it was more effectible to their future.  USS thanks to AAB for providing support to the CJG members & sponsorship officers.
