As a part of “Bangladesh Youth Network”, USS organized a workshop on uses/misuses of using mobile phone at Probhati Adolescent Centre at Laxmichap union in Nilphamari supported by UNDP and JAGO Foundation on 18th October’15. Members of adolescents and youth forum participated in the workshop.
Monjur Alam (member, adolescent forum) said, “Mobiles have no bad impacts. Media is responsible for this because they publish different types of porn films which affect the youths.”
Kalidas Roy (President, Adolescent forum) said, “We watch different pictures on mobile phone, upload many photo and also let others to watch it. This is misuse. Even we are not sure about which is misuse.”
The outcomes of group discussion are as follows:
Advantages of using mobile phone:
1. Fast medium of communication and data exchanging
2. It provides us the opportunity to get attached with different news media.
3. Used as a medium of entertainment.
4. Helps in education.
5. We can get advises about health.
6. Acts as a medium of financial transaction.
7. We can get legal assistance over it.
8. Public awareness can be raised.
9. Skill of browsing can be developed.
10. Stores Information.
11. Information about different cultures of different countries can be known.
12. We can get results of different examinations easily by this.
13. Saves time.
14. Reduces dependencies for exchanging information.
15. Enables us to watch photos and speak with other.
16. Enables us to gather information from websites.
17. Enables us to read books.
18. Saves money.
19. Secured medium.
Disadvantages of using mobile phone:
1. Money is wasted.
2. Dishonor other by showing obscene.
3. Sound pollution rises.
4. Hearing ability reduces.
5. Students get worse in study by uncontrolled use of facebook.
6. It is being used as a medium of illegal activities.
7. Deceptive activities increase.
8. Kidnapping increases.
9. Morality decreases.
10. People get idle.
11. Takes culture to a wrong way.
Ways to improve the advantages:
1. Improve network.
2. Discuss publicly for raising awareness on different usage of browsers.
3. To use mobile phones with advanced technology.
4. Alleviate expenditure.
5. To be concerned about time usage.
6. To develop browsers and networking activity.
7. Raise public awareness on evil sides of using mobile phones.
8. To introduce union based network system.
9. To provide ability of retrieving MMS to every mobile phones.
10. To increase awareness about software development.
Ways to eliminate bad sides:
1. Give importance about time.
2. To make sure of its good uses.
3. To provide correct information.
4. To create awareness against misuse of mobile phones.
5. To include in curricular activities for raising awareness.
6. To provide training for youths.
7. To apply government rules and regulations appropriately.
8. Administrations should be more careful.
9. To raise social movement.
Before ending the workshop, the participants expressed their opinions. Some of those are as below:
