To declare child free marriage union a task force committee has been formed in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila dated on 2nd February, 2015 at the hall room of upazila arranged by USS. Md. Abujar Rahman, Chairman of Nilphamari Upazila Parishad was the chief guest while UNO of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila chaired in the Task force formation workshop. USS is implementing Girl Power Project in the Luxmichap union of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila with the partnership of Plan International Bangladesh. To declare Luxmichap a child free union there are lots of grand work have been done like; Ward committee formation, Union advocacy workshop, union task force committee formation, orientation for boys and men on child rights and child protection issues, TFD show at ward level, parents gathering on stop child marriage etc. from last four months. To establish model union of Luxmichap union the task force committee will work as monitoring, communication with right holders and duty bearers, collect information on child marriage and child related issues and take initiatives to solve those problems. In the speech of chief guest chairman of upazila parishad said that, “Now it is time to save our girls from the disease of child marriage so that we can present a good nation in our country. We have to work together to see a model union where no child marriage will take placed.” There are 30 participants from women welfare department, youth development department, family planning & health department, Ansar and VDB department, police department, social welfare department, UP chairmen, Journalists, NGO representatives and women vice chairman of upazila parishad Nilphamari participated actively in the task force formation workshop. After a long time of discussion a committee has been formed consists 17 members. UNO of Nilphamari sadar upazila is the president and women welfare officer is the secretary of the committee. In the task force formation workshop Arifa Sultana Lovely, women vice chairmen of upazila Parishad Nilphamari sadar, executive director of USS, police officer in-charge of Nilphamari sadar, UP chairmen of Luxmichap and Polashbari union delivered their valuable speeches. In the speeches of UNO Nilphamari sadar upazila said that, “Task force committee formation is the milestone of the Nilphamari sadar upazila and its have a lot of responsibilities regarding declare child marriage free union. After all we will work together so that we can establish a model union in the Nilphamari sadar upazila which will influence other unions to do the same and finally we want to see a child marriage free district”.
